UNWTO recently released the report for 2008 regarding tourism around the world. The Basic Idea is in this uncertain economic progress, tourism sector also get hurt.
Worldwide inbound International Tourist Arrivals at 2008 has reach the number of 924 million peoples. Increase from the 2007 at 908 million peoples. But the growth is came for the first half of the year. For the second half the growth rate is - 1 %. The financial crisis, commodity and oil price rises & sharp exchange rate fluctuations are some of the causes.
Despite worldwide negative growth in the second half of 2008, some regions manage to growth positive ( Americas : +1% , Africa : +4%, and Middle East : +5% )
UNWTO also marked several nations with positive trend in the 2008 : Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Uruguay, Republic of Korea, Macao, Indonesia, India, Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, Morocco, and Turkey.
For the 2009 UNWTO excepts International tourism to be stagnated 0 % growth or even decline slitghly for 1 - 2 %. But this predictions is fully attached with global economic movement.
Also some trends will be seen in 2009 such as :
1. Travel to destination closer to home than long-haul journey.
2. The decline in average length of stay.
3. Value for money and favourable exchange rate is the key issues for tourist destinations.
4. Late booking is excepted due to the uncertainty.
