Tobacco Industries in Indonesia : figures ( part two )

After looking in general for tobacco industries at the part one post, now we want to take a look closer to one of big five tobacco company in Indonesia.

This company, let's said it " company " is well known in Indonesia. It has branch office almost at all over this country. The product range is also very wide from the clove cigarettes ( SKT ), filtered cigarettes ( SKM ) to advanced filtered cigarettes ( SPM ).

At the year of 2006 this company earn net profit of Rp 145,5 milyar ( 145,5 billion rupiah 0r 14,55 million US dollar approx ). From this net profit, 30 % goes to the stake holder as a deviden ( Rp 45 billion rupiah ).

This net profit is up 35 % from the year of 2005. From this growth, each stocks earn a dividen Rp 7,5 / one piece or Rp 750 ,- / lot. This net profit come from net income which hit the number of 3 trillion rupiah at 2006.

For the year of 2008 in this first quartal ( Jan to April ) the net income has reach 1,3 trillion rupiah with the sales volume of 4 billion sticks at all categories. Comparet to the first quartal of 2007 the gross profit up more than 7 %. But the net profit is down due the payment of obligation interests that needed to support the company expansion.

From this sample figures, we can guess how big is this industry at how important it roles for Indonesia's economic. The taxes for example is one of the biggest contribution for the government income. The labour is the other things that also greatly contributed by this industry. You can find many " tobacco home industries " all over the central and east java. Not to mention other industry ( raw material, advertising, distribution , etc ) that effect by tobacco industries.

But the negative impacts are also high. The percentage of early age smoker is growth every year. Also the tobacco related illness that also growth and spread widely. The MUI ( Majelis Ulama Indonesia ) or Indonesia High Council of Moslem's Religionist also prepared to banned the smoking habit as " haram " of prohibited by Islam.
