Work fun : CBHRM - Employee Selection Step 5

Dear blogger ;

Now we will discuss step 5 of the Competency Based Human Resources Management : Employee Selection.

For review , this is the 4 steps mention earlier :

1. IDENTIFY THE POSITION

2. TASK AND ACTIVITIES ANALYSIS

3. IDENTIFY IN DETAIL THE PRE-ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

4. IDENTIFY THE CORE AND SUB COMPETENCIES REQUIRED
FOR THE POSITION

Now, with the table of core and sub competencies we've created in the fourth step,
we go to the fifth step : PRIORITIZE CORE AND SUB COMPETENCIES USING RANK ORDER AND FACTOR WEIGHING.

Notice that the table we have now divided into core and sub competencies.
In each category you'll find more than one competencies.
Our job is to prioritize this competencies based on :
1. Rank Order
Which one is the top rank competency. Why is it ? Are all the team agreed with it ?
Which is the second, the third and so on.
Brain storming needed here to set the rank properly.

2. Factor Weighing
Not only the rank, we ought to weighing it too.
For the first time, it sound complicated.
But most company now using new tools to do an annually assessment for the employee.
This tools mix quantitative and qualitative analysis.
Because of this, the competencies for each position must be measurable.

For example for the position of telemarketing staff, the core competency can be :
1. Have an excellent verbal communication ability ( weigh : 23 of 100 )
2. Have a willing to help personality ( weigh 19 of 100 )
and so on.

Some company may skip the weighing process. It depends of how far the measurement system for the employee have been made. Again, we have to match the company culture.

At the end of this step, we have a full range of core and sub competencies arranged in rank
and weigh. It's an important asset for the company. For now and the future.

Regards ;
